Trade policy magazine 90 years: NATO membership opens doors

The December’s theme of the Kauppapolitiikka trade policy magazine is NATO, the opportunities it offers and Finland’s move to a new era.

NATO membership is expected to benefit the Finnish industry. More opportunities have opened up, yet instant gains are not on the horizon. At the same time, global defence spending is increasing at an accelerating rate.

Our December issue also celebrates Kauppapolitiikka magazine’s 90th anniversary. Many things have changed during the publication’s long history, but foreign trade remains as important as ever. When the Ministry for Foreign Affairs started publishing topical financial reports in the early days of the magazine, the export of 25 million eggs to the UK was an important piece of news.

In December’s interview, we learn that Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio looks to the wider world for export markets for Finnish companies. We take a look at state aid and examine how some forms of state aid can be detrimental to the economy.

Read the story about how the rapid development of artificial intelligence has created not only unprecedented opportunities but also a wide array of threats and how AI should be regulated. The latest issue also writes about cleaning up environmental damage and the window of opportunity for Finnish companies on the Dutch market.
