On 18 October 2007, the Government adopted Finland's Development Policy Programme, which steers Finland’s development policy and development cooperation for the duration of its term of office.
In accordance with the programme, the most important objective is to eradicate poverty in compliance with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), set in 2000. Eradication of poverty is possible only if both the developing and industrialised countries pursue economically, socially and ecologically sustainable policies.
The profound impacts of globalisation on mankind have created the need to try and steer and control developments by means of intensifying international cooperation and improving the international contractual system. This refers to the creation of a comprehensive global policy, humanity policy.
