Nordic cooperation

The formal cooperation between the Nordic countries is amongst the oldest and most extensive forms of regional cooperation in the world. Nordic cooperation involves all Scandinavian countries Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden as well as the three autonomous areas, the Faroe Islands (Denmark), Greenland (Denmark) and the Åland Islands (Finland.

The Nordic trademark, the Swan symbol, represents the five Nordic countries, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden and the three autonomous territories the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Åland.

Political cooperation is built on common values and a willingness to achieve results that contribute to a dynamic development and increase Nordic competencies and competiveness.

Nordic cooperation has been conducted for almost 60 years, beginning with the establishment of the Nordic Council in 1952.

Finland belongs to the Nordic Passport Convention

The Nordic Passport Union allows citizens of the Nordic countries (Finland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Iceland) to travel and reside in other Nordic countries without a passport or a residence permit.

Foreigners can also pass through the borders of the Nordic countries without having their passport checked. They still have to carry a passport or some other form of approved identification papers.

The Nordic Passport Convention was signed in 1957.
