      <description>UN peacekeeping activity has increased significantly and its nature has changed since the first UN peacekeeping operation, established in 1956 due to the Suez Crisis. At Suez, the blue berets had a traditional mission to perform: to ensure and monitor cessation of hostilities between the parties and supervise the maintenance of ceasefire.</description>
